a Toroidal-Sphere is an optical device (Lenz) that can correct 'Astigmatism' which is an optical defect in which 'vision' is blurred due to the inability of the optics of the eye to focus a point object into a sharp focused image on the retina.
For us the Toroidal Sphere concept in sound, like a Toroidal-Sphere Lenz to the eye, can be applied to what ever the listeners activity is at the time, guiding or assisting them to create a sharper or more focused vision/image in there mind of that particular activity..
We have found that these liquid sounds can be used in cases of study, house work, exercise, birthing, meditation or even while tackling work, slaving away at a desk or on a more modern object like a computer or ipad..
Be sure to take (give) the time to open your ears & 'listen', allowing the sound to enter the conscious, or the sub-concscous I should say. (headphones can help with this connection)
You can try this Toroidal experience on most of the long tracks on the life like liquid albums.. eg. Crystal Winged Ship, Toroidal Spheres, Kadal, The Fold, Phosphorescence, Green Sea Turtle, Golden Orb Weaver, Spoonbender & the Tarkine as well as the 60min No-Mind Meditation album.
In mathematics, a toroid is a doughnut-shaped object, such as an O-ring. Its annular shape is generated by revolving a geometrical figure around an axis external to that figure. When a rectangle is rotated around an axis parallel to one of its edges then a hollow cylinder (resembling a piece of straight pipe) is produced.
The other explanation for the Toroidal Spheres track name is the Doughnut....The organic variety can be found in the Byron Bay area & it is very tasty...
SOUNDTRACK
Tracks 'Spoonbender', 'Toroidal Spheres' & 'The Fold' were all recorded as improvised, alternate soundtracks to this footage of 'Coming of the Dawn' and it's well worth doing a home sync job if you have it on VHS tape. Just for the record, 'The Fold' (long Version track 7. Disc 2) starts about 3.30 minutes into 'the Dawn' as we had to cut the start off that one..
